A global perspective through a WAARC-supported Churchill Fellowship

WAARC is sponsoring a dedicated Churchill Fellowship in 2026, providing an opportunity for a Western Australian mid-career researcher, or passionate individual working in the agricultural sector, to undertake four to eight weeks of international travel.

Valued at about $35,000, the Fellowship will support a self-designed overseas program focused on exploring international best practice, emerging opportunities and innovative approaches that can be translated back into tangible benefits for WA agriculture.

The WAARC-sponsored Fellowship is designed for someone who is curious, collaborative and motivated by global knowledge exchange.

Fellows design their own itinerary and travel at a time that best suits their project, with a strong emphasis on sharing learnings once they return.

Applications open 27 February 2026 at 9am and close 30 April at 5pm (AWST).

Applicants should outline how their Fellowship will address:

  • a key challenge in the WA agricultural sector
  • how learnings will be shared on return
  • the potential for positive community impact.

The Churchill Trust will host in-person information sessions on 5 and 7 March in Perth to help applicants understand the process and develop strong proposals, with registrations available via the Churchill Trust website.

WAARC’s Fellowship provides a life-changing opportunity to explore, learn and apply innovative international ideas that will shape the future of Western Australia’s agriculture and food sector.
