Growing northern WA’s potential through intensification

The Northern Agriculture program aims to increase the gross value of production through intensification of agriculture by 2030, focusing on sustainable growth of irrigated agriculture and the northern beef industry.

Themes of the program include:

  • An enabling environment for regional development that takes a strategic approach to environmental management, water use and supply chain logistics.
  • Irrigated cotton production in the East Kimberley using best-practice agronomics to optimise pest control, rotations and use of cover crops.
  • Cotton and grain-enabled cattle production in the tropics that optimises genetics, backgrounding and finishing systems, and integrates agricultural technologies.
  • Rangelands regeneration including the improvement of native grasses and changing grazing management.
  • An Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) Framework to maintain social licence for the Ord River production environment, to preserve its excellent national and international reputation for clean, green produce.

Working groups will bring together representatives with relevant expertise across industry and WAARC members.
