WAARC research programs

WAARC funding is strategically aligned with six key research programs, each led by Program Leads who are experts in their field:

• Northern Agriculture – Sustainable intensification of irrigated farming and northern beef production.
• Grains Transformation – Targeting a 25 million tonne WA grain crop by 2035 while cutting inputs by 50 per cent.
• Resilient Agricultural Futures – Addressing climate change, biosecurity, and evolving market demands.
• Agricultural Technologies – Driving a 20 per cent margin improvement for WA’s top-performing producers.
• Aboriginal Science Engagement – Supporting First Nations-led agriculture and innovation.
• Capacity Building & Extension – Developing the next generation of agricultural leaders and research talent.

Is your project eligible for research funding?

WAARC funds research that is:

• Led by a WAARC member (DPIRD, CSIRO, GGA, Curtin, Murdoch or UWA) and collaborates with at least two other WAARC members – collaboration is key!
• Co-funded – Projects require a 2:1 external funding match and 1:1 co-contribution (member cash and in-kind) from WAARC members or industry.

How to get started

1. Connect with a WAARC Program Lead (click here for details) – Explore alignment with WAARC’s strategic priorities.
2. Develop your proposal and secure approvals – Work with WAARC to refine your project scope. Depending on size, project proposals are reviewed by either an independent panel or the WAARC Steering Committee.
3. Get in-principle support – Need to secure external funding? WAARC can endorse your project to strengthen your funding pitch.
