The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and WA Agricultural Research Collaboration (WAARC) jointly hosted the WA Horticulture Science Forum 2026 in Bunbury on 18 August.
The inaugural forum attracted about 100 researchers, industry representatives, growers, government agencies and stakeholders from across Western Australia to exchange ideas, highlight current research activities and explore opportunities to strengthen the State’s horticultural industries.
Showcasing the breadth of horticultural research and development (R&D) underway across Western Australia, the program featured projects spanning a wide range of commodities, regions and production systems. Participants gained insights into current and emerging research while discussing opportunities to address shared industry challenges and priorities.
Collaboration between researchers, industry and government was a key focus, strengthening partnerships and helping identify priorities for future investment and innovation.
To maximise the number of projects featured during the forum, presenters delivered concise “research snapshot” presentations that provided high-level overviews of their work. The accompanying Research Snapshot Project Summaries booklet provides further detail on project objectives, outputs and industry relevance.
Developed as a companion resource for participants, the Project Guide showcases the diverse range of horticultural research being undertaken across WA and highlights the researchers, organisations and collaborators driving innovation across the sector.
By sharing practical research that addresses real-world needs and fostering ongoing collaboration, DPIRD and WAARC are proud to support the productivity, sustainability and resilience of WA’s horticulture sector now and into the future.
