The WA Agricultural Research Collaboration (WAARC) team gained valuable insights into impact investment strategies focused on driving real, measurable change at the inaugural Impact Economy Forum 2024 on 18 September.
Hosted by Impact Seed, local and national leaders came together at Fraser’s State Reception Centre to explore what it takes to grow an impact economy that tackles some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges.
A thriving and sustainable economy depends on a stable society and healthy ecosystems.
The impact economy is a transformative model that redefines how we create, exchange, and distribute value, ensuring that economic activities contribute positively to society, the environment, and overall wellbeing.
The discussions around social enterprises were particularly enlightening, reflecting some key challenges we’re facing at WAARC.
The Collaboration is involved in developing several projects, especially in climate resilience, that do not fit the typical models for immediate funding streams like Research Development Commission (RDC) funding.
These WAARC projects have high community and societal benefits but may not deliver immediate financial returns.
Understanding how to navigate different funding models and attract investment to these long-term, high-impact projects is essential.
We look forward to continuing these discussions and finding innovative solutions to support WAARC’s purpose of driving agricultural research and resilience in Western Australia.
